Thoughts after first week \u2013 WTF?\u00a0 Why isn\u2019t he talking, confusion, frustration, anger.\u00a0 I remember walking out of tom\u2019s class every day complaining and pissed off.\u00a0 Thanks tom!<\/p>\n
My emotions changed a lot throughout his class.\u00a0 At first I felt confused and excited.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Then powerless. Then frustrated. Then scared.\u00a0 Then motivated.\u00a0 Then powerful, but only once we were a team.\u00a0 There were people who dropped out of my class because they couldn\u2019t deal with the way he taught (or didn\u2019t! so they thought\u2026)\u00a0 It won\u2019t be easy, but it will be worth it.\u00a0 It shows you a lot about who you are as a person, how you deal with conflict, how you lead, how you collaborate and how you listen.<\/p>\n
Although I was in tom\u2019s GST capstone, the lessons I learned (that stuck with me) were less about global studies and more about teamwork, collaboration and management – all things that matter in life after college (regardless of your career path). vI talked about tom\u2019s class in several job interviews.\u00a0 You learn to deal with different personalities, how to listen, and how to take action.<\/p>\n
As tom\u2019s first GST capstone class there were no stories to hear through the grapevine about his teaching, even if there were I\u2019m not sure anything could\u2019ve prepared me!\u00a0 However unconventional, I was lucky to experience tom\u2019s class and wouldn\u2019t have wanted it any other way.\u00a0 There will never be another class like his.\u00a0 Best class I\u2019ve ever experienced.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve been out of college for 2 years now and found myself talking about tom\u2019s class in a bar with one of my friends (who also took the class).\u00a0 That says a lot!!\u00a0 Explaining tom\u2019s class\/teaching style to people who haven\u2019t experienced it first hand is difficult.\u00a0 Can\u2019t wait for you to learn for yourself!<\/p>\n
Side thought \u2013 it\u2019s crazy how powerless you can feel when literally given ALL the power\u2026if you have to choose your own grades good luck. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
I can probably remember the names of about 3 of my college professors\u2026sad, but true.\u00a0 t.r. king is one of them.\u00a0 He\u2019s the only one who managed to have an impact on my life and the way that I think about almost everything now.\u00a0 His class helps you open your own eyes to entirely new perspectives, which wouldn\u2019t have been possible without his unconventional teaching style.<\/p>\n
Just trust the process.\u00a0 You\u2019ll come out a better person.<\/p>\n
