background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.12.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re in for a treat!\u00a0 It\u2019ll be a confusing, whirlwind of a semester at times, but a class that has the potential to teach you more applicable lessons than any other class you\u2019ll take throughout college.\u00a0 The reason I say, \u201c<em>has the potential<\/em>\u201d to, is that tom is not a professor that will force you to learn.\u00a0 He will rather facilitate a setting that allows you to learn if you put the effort in and he provides you with the great tools and guidance to be able to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>I was a student in tom\u2019s Organizational Theory class my junior year and joined as a co-facilitator my senior year.\u00a0 I currently live in the Boston area and just began to work at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hubspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HubSpot<\/a> on a new team that helps study metrics and design training programs for managers and leaders within the company.\u00a0 The lessons I have learned from this class have helped me countless times in my career.\u00a0 My advice:<\/p>\n<p>Be open-minded!\u00a0 tom\u2019s class is going to different than what you\u2019re used to in many ways, but the most drastic adjustment will be that he doesn\u2019t give you answers and doesn\u2019t tell you what to do like most professors you probably have.\u00a0 At times, you are going to be frustrated and think just tell me what you\u2019re looking for.\u00a0 Tell me how to pass this class.\u00a0 Fight the urges to think that way and rather take a step back to appreciate that this is one of your only experiences in school that you have been given complete autonomy and not been micro-managed by professors.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be treated like a peer and given the ability to think for yourself, make proposals, try new ideas, and actually be trusted to do so\u2026 All of which is the most similar to a healthy work environment in your future.\u00a0 You\u2019ll not have a future employer sit down with a guidebook, scripts, tests, etc., but someone who will give you the basic infrastructure and you\u2019ll have to do the learning, trial by error, and work yourself.<\/p>\n<p>This class gave me the ability to understand how a well-functioning organization should look through trial and error.\u00a0 Another tip, don\u2019t be afraid to go on a limb.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be afraid to take a risk.\u00a0 Theorizing ideas is great, but you won\u2019t truly learn and grow from theoretical learning, but by putting ideas into practice.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t going to be an easy class and if you feel like it is, you\u2019re doing it wrong and not getting out of your comfort zone enough.<\/p>\n<p>Best of luck and really do try to be open-minded.<\/p>\n<p>If you have questions or want to run by ideas throughout the semester, feel free to reach out: <a href=\"mailto:Elizabeth.j.saville@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elizabeth.j.saville@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section bb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;
